‘Pick Your Own’ Cornwall Kayak Adventure

WHAT’S INCLUDED? Gylly Adventures will provide all the equipment needed for your activity. (e.g. kayaks, paddles, SUPs). This includes wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets where appropriate. A friendly instructor plus all other safety equipment is also included.

CAN I WEAR MY OWN WETSUIT? Yes. We do however, recommend a full-length wetsuit. Shorty wetsuits are okay only on very warm days.

DO I NEED TO BOOK IN ADVANCE? We will do our best to cater last minute bookings however to guarantee availability and avoid disappointment booking in advance is strongly recommended. Where possible booking online is best. The Activity FAQ’s on the website provide all the information you need.

HOW LONG IS THE TOUR? All Kayak tours are approximately 2 hours on the water. The Invoice/ booking times indicates your arrival and approximate departure time.

HOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE? Many families and groups with no prior experience successfully take part on our Adventures. However, a basic level of fitness is required, for each adventure you can expect to be active for approximately 2 hours.  Consideration should be made if you are supporting a young child on a Double kayak. Participants should be comfortable to swim 50 meters unaided.

CAN I WATCH IF I AM NOT TAKING PART? Most of our Adventures follow the coast, therefore you can follow the groups progress walking along the coastal path.

WHAT TO BRING? Please bring any medication you require e.g. inhalers. Swimming costumes, sun cream, water bottle, wetsuit boots and laced closed toe shoes you do not mind getting wet should all be brought. A towel and warm clothes to put on at the end are recommended. We recommend arriving with swimming costumes already on. This saves time getting ready, additionally we have no private changing facilities.

WHAT IS THE WEIGHT LIMIT? The weight limit for a double kayak is approximately 25st/160kg. Single kayaks 15st/95kg. If you think you are close to the weight limit, please let us know. We can rig a double kayak to be paddled as a single, so you can still enjoy the adventure.

WHAT IS THE MIN AGE? For ‘Join The Next’ and any night activities, the minimum age is 12 years. For a ‘Pick Your Own’ kayak adventure the minimum age is 7 years. Young children must be on a double kayak with an adult who can, if needed, paddle for them if they get tired.

CAN I WEAR GLASSES OR TAKE MY PHONE / CAMERA OUT WITH ME? We advise against it, but these can be brought – this at your own risk however. We have seen plenty of sunglasses and phones drown over the years.

ARE THERE CHANGING FACILITIES?

Gylly Beach Activities: There is an open Courtyard next to our base on the beach which provides a space for changing. There is also a large public toilet if more discretion is required. We recommend that you arrive already changed into your swimwear. There is also a freshwater shower by the public toilets however it is not warm! Your belongings will be kept safe in our containers whilst you are on the water. We have never had any issues, but we do not have any lockers therefore we recommend leaving valuables behind.

Charlestown Activities: There is plenty of open space to get changed at our venue at Charlestown Harbour. We recommend that you arrive already changed into your swimwear. Please note that the nearest public toilets (20 pence charge) are located at Charlestown Car Park.  Your belongings will be kept safe in our container while you are on activity. We have never had any issues, but we do not have any lockers therefore we recommend leaving valuables behind.

Greenbank Activities: There is plenty of open space to get changed at our venue at the Greenbank Gardens. We recommend that you arrive already changed into your swimwear. Please note that the nearest public toilet is a 10-minute walk from the Gardens into Falmouth. There are toilets at the Working boat pub and Greenbank Hotel if open. Your belongings will be kept safe in our containers while you are on activity. We have never had any issues, but we do not have any lockers therefore we recommend leaving valuables behind.

Helford Activities: There are no changing facilities at this location. You will get changed in the open at the Bosveal National Trust Carpark. We recommend that you arrive already changed into your swimwear. There are toilets in Durgan village, we recommend that you visit the loo before arrival as we only go past these toilets once you are already changed. Belongings during the activity will be locked in the Gylly Adventures Van or your own Vehicles.

WHERE DO WE PARK AND MEET?

Gylly Beach Activities: Please meet us at our base on the left-hand side of Gylly Café as you look out to sea. There are lots of parking options near Gylly beach. There is a pay and display carpark in easy walking distance, as well as free residential parking if you are happy to walk a little further. Please note that parking directly opposite Gylly beach café is not permitted in summer months and is regularly patrolled by traffic wardens. Sat Nav postcode is TR114PA.

Charlestown Activities: Please meet us at our base on the Eastern Wall of the outer harbour at Charlestown. If you approach from the Western side of the harbour you will need to cross the Harbour Gate bridge. Our base is within the hut lean-to on the outer harbour below the round house. Kayaks and Paddleboards are positioned on the harbour side to make things clearer.  Sat Nav Postcode is PL25 3NH.

Greenbank Activities: Please meet us at our base on the Greenbank Gardens between the Greenbank Hotel and the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club. Please note there is strictly no parking permitted on the pontoon carpark or on Greenbank Hotel property. If you are a guest staying at the hotel or have a meal reservation pre-booked, then parking onsite is permitted. Free residential parking is easily found around the Greenbank hotel on Stratton terrace and Dunstanville Terrace. Sat Nav Postcode is TR11 2SR.

Helford River Activities (Durgan): Please meet in the Bosveal National Trust carpark at the top of Durgen Village. The car park has an all-day charge of £2 per vehicle and is free to National Trust members. Sat Nav postcode is TR115JR.

Do you cancel if it is raining? No

Booking Cancellation by you: If you cancel your booking more than 14 days before the activity session you are entitled to a full refund. If you cancel between 14 – 5 days before the activity session you are entitled to a full refund minus a 30% deposit. If you cancel within 5 days before the activity session you will receive no refund.

Booking Cancellation by Gylly Adventures (GA): If GA cancels a session due to the fault of GA, you will be offered a full refund. If we cancel due to bad weather (that would make it unsafe to run the session), we will first look to relocate the activity session to an alternative venue. If this is not possible, we will look to reschedule your activity for an alternative date. If this is also not possible then a full refund will be issued.

Booking Tip: If you are travelling to Cornwall and are only in Cornwall for a limited period. Please consider making your activity booking with Gylly Adventures near the beginning of your stay. This means in the event of poor weather disrupting your activity we have the greatest possible time to reschedule. Early booking also avoids disappointment.
